Actor and The Leading Lady: Falling Up is a work for public space examining how we embody, perceive, and project power dynamics into and onto real and theatrical relationships. Dancers Chloe Marie Newton, Harlee Trautman, Katherine Kiefer Stark, Marisa Illingworth and Sean Thomas Boyt slide, spiral, jump, and fall along narrow plywood boards that serve as small portable stages. Composer Ajibola Rivers provides live accompaniment on the cello.
Navigating familiar presentations and power structures, Falling Up strives to raise questions around what it means: to move forward; to take a new place in an old story; to step out of cycles. The performers are doers and undoers, making and unmaking relationships through a series of scenes where time is explored as round, linear, or reversed.
